How the finder works

Every color is converted to CIELAB, a color space built to follow how people see color, and the finder picks the color in each brand with the smallest distance. The match % turns that distance into a score. It is the same maths as our color pages and the color book.

Questions people ask

How do I find the same paint color in another brand?

Type the color name or code above (for example "Agreeable Gray" or "SW 7029"), or enter a hex code, and the finder shows the nearest color in every other brand with a match score.

Is the closest color an exact match?

No. It is the nearest color in our data, measured on screen. Brands mix their colors differently, so two close colors can still look different on a wall. Always compare real samples side by side.

What does the match % mean?

How close the two colors are in the CIELAB color space, which is built to follow how people see color. Above about 95% the difference is hard to see on screen; below about 85% it is a different color.

Can a paint store mix one brand's color in another brand's paint?

Many stores can color-match from a code or a sample, but results vary. The closest ready-made color in the brand you are buying is often the more reliable choice.

Paintrz is not affiliated with or endorsed by any paint brand. Brand names, color names and codes are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify the colors. Screen colors are approximate and matches are the closest color in our data, not exact equivalents; always check a physical sample before buying paint.
